Power Rangers reference in Gokaiger Episode 5

Koichi Sakamoto is the current stunt director of some episodes (corrected, thank you, I got it wrong) of Gokaiger, having produced Power Rangers up to RPM (stunt director starting from season 3). He said on his blog that there would be a PR reference in Episode 5. Fans believe this reference could be in that when the Gokaiger become Go-Onger, they use the wheel cuffs as weapons as the Go-Onger didn't use them as such.

But in RPM, they did use the cuffs as weapons. Couldn't find a pic of it, but did find this one above of the colors running through their tire boot cuffs, which didn't happen in Go-Onger.

UPDATED 3/25/11 10PM EST

I forgot to mention that when the Gokaiger became the Dekaranger, the manner that their helmets changed was a possible nod to SPD, because in the way it happened did not happen in Dekaranger but only in Power Ranegrs SPD.

  2. I feel like RPM was closer to the sentai franchise than any other PR season.

  3. That's... random. I mean, it's cool I guess. Go-Onger kind of used the wheels as a form of super speed near the beginning, and one point as actual wheels to make themselves human cars, but no they didn't use them as weapons, but that doesn't mean it wasn't out of the realm of possibility for them.

A good sign from this though, is that this likely won't be the last PR reference, regardless of how negligent it is. Hopefully something cool will come of it. I can't help but hope some of the better looking Battlizer's and maybe the American Made Rangers will show up some how.

  4. RPM was the most intense, dark, hardcore, overall BEST season of power rangers ever known to mankind!!!

  7. I am starting to notice a lot more "wire-fu" in Sentai now. At first it was really featured a lot in Sentai movies but now it's starting to integrate itself into the actual show, much like Power Rangers. They don't do as much standard hand-to-hand combat like they used to.

  10. "Koichi Sakamoto is the current producer of Gokaiger"

Hes not, hes just a secondary director! He directed eps 5 and 6.

Gokaiger's producer is Shinkenger's Takaaki Utsunomiya.

  11. Sakamoto is not the producer of Gokaiger. He was only the stunt director of Ep. 5 and 6 thus far.

  13. @ anonymous

No, I was referring to RPM's style. It feels closer to the style of a sentai season.

  14. Also the way the Dekaranger helmets appeared on the Gokaigers, a nod to SPD.
