When I read the article about Netflix streaming this "tomorrow" (today by now), you couldn't believe my ecstasy. This is one time where being an insomniac is a good thing, because lying on your bed, you start to realize, "Wait, it's midnight.....POWER RANGERS ARE STREAMING ON NETFLIX NOW!" And I got a first look, and it rocked my world. First of all, the graphics of older footage has slightly improved (the way you think MMPR revisioned would have, before you actually saw it), and at the end of the episodes of all of the shows, even the Disney seasons, they use the new Saban logo, like the one they use at the end of "Samurai". Since I didn't sleep at night, I spent the whole night watching "Zeo", and thanks to the digital remastery, I noticed things I didn't notice before even when they aired it on Jetix.
First, in the zord garage, you can see the initials "U.A.O.H." from Zeo's Japanese counter-part, "Ohranger". Also, in the power chamber, where they have capsules containing the MMPR suits, Yellow ranger's suit (are you ready for this) has a skirt. What ironic timing to notice it, when gokaiger is airing in Japan. I also noticed a few less impressive things like the rangers wearing turtle-necks......a lot, and subtext about David Yost, but that's not important. Who knows what other things I will just start to notice in other old season, but whats really cool, is the fact that it's on netfix, means that via desktop, laptop, TV internet, and iPhone, I can literally spend the whole day watching non-stop Power Rangers. Although, there are a few things you should know. First, they're not streaming Mystic Knights, or Masked rider, and second, MMPR-R is considered S-19 on Netflix, not S-18, while "Samurai" is considered 18, but isn't on netflix at all, even though the cast list is on the site.

THANK YOU SABAN FOR POTENTIALLY MAKING ME COMPLETELY ANTI-SOCIAL BY HAVING ME RELIVE MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ABOUT OVERGROWN TEENAGERS IN SPANDEX.......and body armor......and whatever Dr. K. said her RPM suits were made of.
Didn't Saban lose the Kamen Rider rights to Adness?
ReplyDeleteno, ishinomori just took the rights back. addness simply bought it from toei/ishinori
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a good thing Saban's Masked Rider isn't available? I got the impression the people behind Kamen Rider where so mad at such a dis-respectful adaptaion, that Saban not only lost the licence, but I think that's why they couldn't even use the word "Masked Rider" - and had to settle for "Kamen Rider" when bring Ryuki over to America.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I meant. :p Are the rights to Kamen Rider still with Adness? Also, is there any truth to the story Ishinomori hated the Saban version of RX?
ReplyDeletethe streaming can only be watch where? only in the U.S. ?
ReplyDeleteAny chance of these getting added to Netflix Canada?
ReplyDeleteI think it is only in the US. I am sure soon it will be available in UK and Canada, judging by how the licensing internationally is going.
ReplyDeleteIsn't online streaming available worldwide, even though the DVD is available only in US? But it's true about ishinomori himself hating masked rider, and about addness still having rights, but some fans actually want to see masked rider, for old-times sake. But I understand your anguish about the national limits of online videos. I wish I was able to watch BBC 1, 2, and 4, cartoon network phillipean, and tv asahi online. These limits really kill the the denotation of "the Internet".
ReplyDeleteIs there an official (or at least legit) citation that Ishinomori hated Saban's Masked Rider? The fact that Dragon Knight is listed on Ishinomori Production's website and not the Saban version gives credence to this idea, but I want some more concrete than a simple "yes" answer. :p
ReplyDeletestreaming from the wii. any reason why they didnt put all of them up on netflix? it kind of skips around showing first 3 or 4 and it goes to a new season after turbo or lost galaxy
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that, interesting. Must be a glitch.
ReplyDeletelooks like they are having issues again. just season 1-3 and 18 showing up. i was in the middle of Dinothunder :(
ReplyDeleteSave one episode of mmar, it's working fine for me. For some reason, instead of showing mmar ep 1, it shows mmprs1 ep 1. By the way, have you seen the aquatians on vacation in hd? Haha, I'll snip a shot of that and post it on deviant art.
ReplyDeleteI have all the episodes just fine.
