Power Rangers Leaving New Zealand and Cosmic Fury Speculations

UPDATED 7/9/23

I haven't been writing much on this blog lately I've had it for over 16 years. I am not part of the Power Rangers fandom, given I make Power Rangers TikTok videos practically every day. I wanted to address the discussions on Twitter about Cosmic Fury and with Producer Simon Bennett. Specifically, the negative reception and concerns on how Hasbro is handling the lack of promotion for Cosmic Fury. Now it has been announced officially that Power Rangers will no longer be filming in New Zealand. Fans have speculated this for a while, also given that Simon Bennett recently mentioned he would no longer do Power Rangers after Cosmic Fury.

Fans have been doomsday-ing this as the complete end of Power Rangers, but rumors are Power Rangers will now be filmed in Canada. Hasbro has studios in Canada and it has been known for a while that Jonathan Entwistle and Jenny Klein will be working on a new movie and/or series for Power Rangers. Fans have guessed it will not require Sentai footage. Some fans are speculating it will be a Young Adult series, not aiming for the same audience as usual. In other words, we are pretty much in the dark about what is coming for 2024. But I am not doomsday-ing, I am sure there will be more Power Rangers coming our way, one way or another. And as for the negative response to Cosmic Fury, like lack of promotion, quality of toys, or the suits, I am not going to judge anything until it is released on Netflix and until everything is said and done.

Regardless of how we feel about speculations and optics (promotion), I believe fans should just keep their opinions to themselves after the show has been released. But that's just my opinion. Naysayers are going to do exactly that, naysay. And I am not above it all. I have been guilty of expressing uncouth opinions before. None of us are perfect.

So this is what we know for sure now

  • New Zealand out, Canada in?
  • Cosmic Fury will be the last season of Power Rangers for Simon Bennett
  • Cosmic Fury airing internationally on Netflix in  August
  • Fern will be the Orange Ranger
Other little things of curiosity:
Power Rangers stop shooting at the studios they filmed at in New Zealand last year, after the second season of Dino Fury. They began shooting at a new location, rebuilding sets, and making sets for Once and Always. Most likely Hasbro was planning to release something from Joanthan Entwistle and Jenny Klein earlier than sooner and was planning to leave New Zeland in 2022 but because of COVID, costs, and delays, most likely they decided to double-down and do Cosmic Fury to fill the gap. Or maybe, Hasbro saw how much it would cost to continue filming in New Zealand and decided to move to Canada. Hasbro has been letting go of personnel and downsizing and the fact that they are still working on Power Rangers means a lot. I am not too worried about the future of Power Rangers. I am curious and actually looking forward to Cosmic Fury.

My own zany ideas:
Bandai America would make extra zord toys that weren't on the show and here is my rendition of a beige crab. It is inspired by some Dream AI App simulations I did. The Kyuranger crab kyutama was pink-red but I made it look like the Zenith Ranger.

Cosmic Fury Speculations and Spoilers

Late last night or early today (considering your time zone), producer Simon Bennet revealed Power Rangers Dino Fury will continue in the third season called Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. At Power Morphicon today on August 28, 2022 (the 29th anniversary of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), the Dino Fury cast was interviewed in a panel to reveal they know almost nothing about the new season. Here is a breakdown of the information and speculations and one spoiler from Dino Fury.

Breakdown of Information:

  • The six castmembers/Rangers will return
  • The cast thinks they will be the same colors but they did say they were in dark so this could prove not to be true.
  •  Season 3 will continue the same story and characters of season 2.
  • Season 3 will take place in space.
  • Shooting for Season 3 has not taken place.
  • The cast found out about the name "Cosmic Fury" through fans. One fan found the name for it.
  • They will be in new studios and the sets were dismantled and will either be recreated or reconstructed.
Things we yet to know:
  • If they will have the same suits
  • If they will use Kiramager footage
  • If they will use Kyuranger footage
  • If they will making new footage with Dino Fury suits.
SPECULATIONS:

If they use Kiramager footage, it would correspond with Zayto, Ollie, Izzy, and Amelia's colors but not Javi and Aiyon. Javi would have to be yellow and Aiyon would have to be silver.

If Kyuranger is used, the Rangers could fall in their color slots.
Red - Zayto
Blue - Ollie
Pink - Amelia
Gold - Aiyon
Black - Javi
Green - Izzy
Purple - Terrick

Now the rest is just my speculations:
Orange - Blair (singer from one episode)
Silver - J-Borg
Yellow - Aquitarian (not one specifically, could be new character)

Or they could go for budget and use the Kyuranger character suits and use the footage. Blue, Black and Gold have creatures so they can keep those. Pink and Purple were also costumed characters too. Then it would be...
Red - Zayto
Yellow - Ollie
Pink - Amelia
Orange - Javi
Green - Izzy
Silver - Aiyon

Blue - a wolf alien
Purple - Terrick
Black - a bull robot
Gold - an android

Or they could use the same Dino Fury costumes.

Power Rangers 2023 Possible Title

We have gotten very little information on the next Power Rangers season whereas in the past we have gotten an official announcement with a poster or logo with a story summary. What we do know is the show, the show will be on Netflix, the new Executive Producer is Jenny Klein and Jonathan Entwistle is in charge of the expanded universe. In the link below, fans have found the possible title is "Cosmic Fury." This has fans going crazy thinking it will based on a Sentai like Kiramager (gemstone/vehicle-based) or Kyuranger (constellation based). I welcome all results. They will be shooting the show soon, it will for sure shot in New Zealand. Nothing is really known. Power Morphicon is in August so hopefully, the cast will be revealed. The title could be changed. It is possible it would not premiere in February or March in 2023, maybe later.

Possible Title: Power Rangers Cosmic Fury
Executive Producer: Jenny Klein
Country to be filmed: New Zealand
Network/Streaming Service: Netflix

Speculation: Power Rangers Girls Doll Line

The following is not official at this point at November 28th, 2018. If you are seeing this some months after this date, this has probably come true.
Hasbro Dolls
Since Hasbro got the Disney rights, they have upped their game with the Disney Princess dolls. Now they have Star Wars Forces of Destiny and Marvel Rising. First of all, it is great Hasbro is doing dolls for girls and boys and collectors focusing on the female characters. With Star Wars, they are focusing on the females for a mostly male dominated toy franchise. I found Star Wars Forces of Destiny interesting but unfortunately a lot of the dolls have been warming shelves and found on clearance. Marvel Rising just started and I don't have the estimates on sales. With this being said, if the dolls will be successful or not, I think Hasbro should try with the large wealth of Power Rangers characters to choose from.

 Bandai Dolls 1994-1995
Bandai America tried making dolls of the female Rangers back in the day. They had civilian clothes, Ranger suits, doll hair and helmets. They made them of Aisha as well. They did plan dolls for Kat, Tanya and Tommy for Zeo in 196 but they were never released. Only prototypes. They were not successful that they stopped making them.

Bandai doll-like figures 2002-2007
Bandai America made action figures that were like dolls at 11 or 12 inches tall. They had the suits, armor, accessories and helmets. They no civilian clothes. Some had the actor faces like Wild Force, Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder. They had human faces in SPD but with wrong skin colors and covering most of the face and did not resemble the actors. For Mystic Force and Operation Overdrive, they no longer had human faces and the helmets were not removable. Some parts of the suits were still removable. By the time of Jungle FUry, they stop making them.

Power Rangers
In my dream doll line, female rangers would be prominent but there should be a few male characters as well. Of course, I see the first dolls would be Kimberly the Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger and Trini the Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger. Also see focus on 1995 Movie suits, 2017 Movie suits, and Ninja Rangers. Also focus on female characters that have not gotten action figures like Nova Ranger, Kat Ranger, White Mystic Force Ranger (Udonna), Dr. K, Hayley (Dino Thunder), Ms, Fairweather (Lightspeed Rescue), and others. I see including significant others like Tommy the Green/White Ranger, Andros the Red Ranger, Dillon the Black Ranger, etc. Now I know female Legacy Rangers didn't sell well but I think dolls might do better. There are also adult collectors for dolls. One fan on Twitter said it would be cool to have Billy in his original overalls.

Villainesses
If they do decide to make a doll line, the biggest focus I think should be villainesses like Rita (show and movie 2017), Scorpina, Divatox, Astronema, Psycho Pink, Psycho Yellow, Trakeena, Nadira, Toxica, Marah, Kapri, Elsa, Morgana, Necrolai, Camile, Tenaya 7, Madame Odius, and Poisandra. Only a few villainesses have gotten figures: Poisondra, Madame Odius, Camile, and Rita. It would be cool if they were two dolls for Astronema: cyborg Astronema with red wig and regular Astronema with different wigs. I think villainesses that had rubber monster forms should get dolls too: Necrolai, Queen Machina, Archerina, Metal Alice, etc.

I'm adding a poll to the blog once again, which I used to do long ago.

Beast Morpher toy listings speculations

Power Ranger Talk found these listings on Amazon a week ago.

Playskool Heroes
I guess Imaginext is over because Hasbro has now coming  up Playskool Heroes. The figures are smaller than the Imaginext ones. No descriptions so it is unknown what series Rinozord and Wolf zords are from.

Adam (@liladam87) says "Drilltron" could be Drilloid from Go-Busters.

Speculations:
I don't know the Blaze Ranger has 'v.' People are curious how the Evok figure will look like. I like the Beastbots are getting various figures and also Roxy, confirming that is the name of the villainess. It looks like they are continuing the monsters like Bandai was doing. Also interesting they are releasing Gold and Silver in the first wave, probably because the toys will be released in April, when the series on hiatus.

What Lavender Ranger Expects From Hasbro

I don't want to be selfish and be like, this is my opinion and it is what is written in stone. With that thought, I then said let's make a post about the whole fandom wants. But getting everyone's opinions would take too much time and I'm beyond busy right now. And it would be douchy of me to speak for the fandom. I don't want to do that either. So here is my opinion and if anyone cares can read it, if they don't, they don't have to read it. I've been a Power Rangers fan since 1993, my first toy was the 8 inch Yellow Ranger from Bandai and I love the details and articulation of the Bandai Japan toys.  So here is stuff I expect and want...

Zords like Bandai Japan zords
The next series to be adapted is Go-Busters as Beast Morphers. The mecha looks the most like Transformers so it is definitely in Hasbro's wheelhouse. Since around when Disney took over, the Bandai America zords have lost quality. They used to be close to the quality of Bandai Japan. The Legacy zords definitely stepped up and got better than Bandai Japan, then they did Bandai Premium. Hasbro is no stranger to recreating toys from Japan, Transformers, VR Troopers, etc. And they have done great articulation with Transformers.

Legacy Figures Continued
The Marvel Legends figures are 6 inches tall while the Bandai Legacy figures are 6'5". Fans want the Legacy line to continue and with the 6'5" height. That would be great, I would like that because I can continue my collection and not have to restart. Unfortunately I don't see that happening. It is rare for toy lines to continue from one company to another. I do look forward to Hasbro doing the Legacy figs because the Marvel Legends have different heads and arms unlike the Bandai ones.

Shogun Megazord and other Legacy Items
Talking about continuation of lines, Bandai moved on from MMPR finally and will give us Zeo Mropher and Golden Staff but they skipped Shogun Megazord which has left a sore spot for fans. Basically because they decided to release Red and Yellow dino zords instead of it. The original Shogun Megazord came with a pink one instead of white and I would like to see a show accurate Shogun Megazord. Hasbro executives have said they will cater more to grown up fans and their Marvel line sure has shown that so I hope so.

Villain figures
Hasbro makes a lot of villains. Bandai did in the past but not so much anymore. Bandai has been releasing more monsters, I would like to see more monsters to continue. I would like to see classic villains in a Legacy line like Rita, Zedd, Goldar, etc. This might be too much to ask but past monsters would be great now. The above pic shows 11 inch "Nutcracker" figures, I now they will continue. I know fans won't like it but it will continue because it is the industry norm now.

Equality
I know fans didn't want to believe girl figures don't sell and I even refused to believe it. But I have seen them warm shelves. But I think the current Bandai America figures did so because the figures were/are so thin and easily to break. I say that because my nephew and niece have easily broken through female figures' arms and legs. For the Movie, Bandai did release more female figs and gear. For Black Panther and Antman and Wasp, they have lots of female figures and I hope this continues with Power Rangers. I think it won't be an issue with Beast Morphers as they is just one female and she is yellow.

 Final Thoughts
I've said what I expect but what I WISH would be affordable items and quality items. "Affordable" is hard. If you want quality, you have pay for it. But I wish it was worth it. The Bandai America Legacy Communicator was not show accurate and the sounds were random and was $80. If I spend $80, I want it to be worthwhile. All above is just speculation anyway. I don't know really what will happen. I am excited. A lot of fans are hyped, they don't want to disappointed. But from experience, not everyone will be happy. We'll see. It is part of life. Excitement and disappointment. All I got to say to Hasbro is: Bring It On.

Power Rangers 25th Anniversary Ranger Keys

Just when you thought they would never ever do Ranger Keys again. Apparently Toys R Us saw profit from the redux of keys two years ago or was it a year ago? Anyway, fans found a listing for it. The picture is a placeholder.

You guys know I love Ranger Keys and still collect them. My buddy https://twitter.com/DTAKEOVR has made those missing keys like Movie, Ninja Steel, Dino Charge and any others, he has done amazing ones. So basically the listing says there will be SIX sets of five, so it looks like it will be different packaging than the ones we are used to. Another thing is that it says the keys will fit in the Dino Charge Morpher which I don't believe. I just hope they make another morpher with new sounds.

Now on to the speculation on which keys they could be because this wouldn't be Lavender Ranger's blog if I didn't do this....

4. Samurai - 5 (Red, Blue, Green, Pink. Yellow)
