Super Sentai: Non-Color Teammate Names (2019)

UPDATED 10/19/19
I'm counting only select Extra Heroes. Whole teams that didn't have colors in their names: JAKQ, Changeman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Carranger and Toqger. I think I am counting the heroes with the word from their team in their names, except for those in Hurricanger.

King Ranger
The Ohrangers had colors in their name. In Power Rangers Zeo, he is the Gold Ranger. Toei considers him a Black Ranger. The kanji symbol of King is on his head and belt.

Signalman
In Carranger, he was an extra hero but anyway, he didn't have 'Racer' in their name.

Time Fire
I think he was the first team member to not have a color name in a team that had color names. In Power Rangers Time Force, he was the Quantum Ranger.
Goraijer
The Hurricanger had color names but the Goraijer did not. They had the names of their insects: Kabuto Raijer and Kuwagata Raijer. In Ninja Storm, they had color names: Crimson and Navy.

Shurikenger
In Hurricanger, he was Shurikenger. Shuriken is the star shape. In Ninja Storm, he was Green Samurai Ranger.

AbareKiller
The American team didn't want to use the name obviously. The name is fine for Japan, but not for America. But a cool name none the less. But I wouldn't want kids saying 'Killer.'

AbareMax
Just a power-up but treated toy-wise as a sixth ranger.

DekaBreak
He calls himself a "Daybreak" detective. Break could refer to his electric arracks or that stated previously. In SPD, he was the Omega Ranger.

DekaMaster
'Master' of them all, makes sense. Also, funny cause he's a dog. He's his own master.

Deka Swan
Her name is Swan and her powers are swan inspired. In SPD, she was Kat Ranger because she was a feline-like alien. The helmet does look cat-like.

Deka Bright
Coolest name ever. In SPD, she was the Nova Ranger.

Magi Shine
He's shiny and his name is shine.

Magi Mother
She was a mother, obviously but I don't know, was she really just a mother? She was a warrior, not just a mother.

GekiChopper
He can chop things. In Jungle Fury, he was Rhino Ranger.

GoseiKnight
Toei counts him as a Silver Ranger and doesn't have 'Silver' in his name and suit seemed the most like an Extra Hero. In Megaforce, he was Robo Knight and treated as a Sixth Ranger.

Stag Buster and Beet Buster
They were the fourth and fifth rangers but they had their insect names but not color names. In Power Rangers, they have color names but their insects were changed. Kabuto Beetle to Mantis and Stag Beetle into Scarab.

Starninger
In Ninninger, they had the color names in Japanese. Starninger was the only one with a shape name and not a color. In Ninja Steel, he was the Gold Ranger.

ZyuOh The World
In Zyuohger, the main team had beast names but ZyuOh The World has a unique name as he is made of three animals and not one.

Ryu Commander
In Kyuranger, he did have the Violet name temporarily but ultimately was 'commander.'

Houhou Soldier
He was the second Red Ranger in Kyuranger so he got another name.

Paten X / Lupin X
He was the 7th warrior in the series but the fourth of each team in Lupinranger vs Patranger.

Representation of Colors in Super Sentai (2018)

Art by Taiko554

Red
Red usually represents courage, sacrifice, aggression, love, negativity, passion, socialism, heat, fire, beauty, leadership, injury, danger, blood, and conservatism. The As for the Sentai Reds 2011-2018, there is a mix bag of bubbly and serious and stubborn. Alata is positive and Marvelous is firey, aggressive and stubborn. Hiromu is serious and blunt. Daigo is positive and bubbly. Right is positive and bubbly. Takaharu is serious. Yamato is positive and Lucky is bubbly and stubborn. Tsurugi is prideful, arrogant and intelligent. While Kairi and Keiichiro are both serious, Keiichiro being hot-blooded and Kairi being impulsive. Alata, Daigo, Right, Yamato and Lucky have been positive characters, always looking at the bright side. Marvelous, Hiromu, Tsurugi, and Takaharu have been serious but with a sense of humor.

Blue
Blue can represent ice, water, sky, sadness, winter, royalty, cold, calm, magic, and truth. In the English language, blue often represents the human emotion of sadness. Most of the 2000's blues are calm. The 2010's ones are no exception. Hyde is serious, calm, and sometimes sad. Joe is the serious one but can laugh at a joke. Ryuji is reasonable and cool-headed, often referred to as the big brother. Nobuharu is reliable, clumsy, shy and funny, the opposite of calmness, coldness and sadness. Haru is cautious and punctual. Yakumo is actually quick tempered but also has a cool demeanor. Sela doesn't like to lose and doesn't want to show her weakness. She is associated with water as she is a shark. Garu is short-tempered and impulsive. Tooma is the calm one. So Yakumo and Garu are short tempered while the other ones are cool and collected except for Nobuharu who is the opposite. Yakumo and Nobuharu are used for comic relief.

Green
Green usually represents nature, growth, hope, youth, sickness, health, spring, money, and envy. In many folklores and literature, green has traditionally been used to symbolize nature and its embodied attributes, namely those of life, fertility, and rebirth. Green Rangers usually represent nature, growth, hope, youth, health, and envy. Most Green Rangers are the comic relief, stubborn one, or the decent one. Hanto, Sen, and Don are a few that represent comic relief. Most of the time when a Green Ranger has a elemental power, it is to do with nature, Magiranger had Nature and Shinkenger had to do with Wood/Forest. Don was nervous, smart and comic relief. Souji is cool and calm. Hikari is calm but opposes Right at times. Tusk is smart, sensitive and kind. Hammie is sarcastic, hyperactive and self-motivated. Sakuya is laid-back. So Sakuya, Don and Hikari are lax at times, Souji and Tusk are serious when it comes to fighting. Hammie is unique not only that she is female but she is not comedic relief in a slapstick sort of way. Most of them do represent youth. Only Tusk represents nature. Magi (GoseiGreen) and Luna (Midoninger) were only temporary rangers. Luna was bubbly and there was not much to Magi other than he died and was Hyde's friend.

Yellow
Yellow represent sunshine, warmth, fun, happiness, warning, friendship, caution, intelligence, cowardice, love, hope, optimism, imagination, curiosity, surprise and thrill. Most Yellow Rangers are the happy-go-lucky ones. They have represented almost all the properties previously mentioned. There are some Yellow Rangers that are the opposite of happiness and optimism. Moune is strict and perfectionist, Luka is a badass and cocky about it, Yoko is impulsive and stuck up. Mio is a tomboy, Nagi is friendly, Leo is strong but has a bad temper, Spada is the put-together father figure, and Umika is carefree and playful. Nagi and Spada represent friendship. Umika and Mio represent happiness. Leo and Luka represents thrill and curiosity. Moune and Yoko represent precociousness.

Pink
Pink has represented girls, love, health, fairies, beauty, cuteness, and glamor. And all the Pink Rangers have in some way represented all those aspects (fairies only to a few). The majority of the Pink Rangers in Sentai had to represent feminine side, be super girly. Eri is bubbly and super cute, representing love, beauty and cuteness. Ahim De Famille is regal and polite, but not above fighting. Amy is free spirited. Kagura tells tall tales and her imagination is huge. Kasumi is a girl sharp-tongued genius. Raptor is a cute dreamer. Tsukasa is calm and collected and has a plush toy collection. Eri, Ahim, Kagura and Raptor represent the ultra feminine stereotype. While Tsukasa and Amy are feminine tomboys if that makes sense. They are masculine/tomboy but not too much, with a touch of feminity. Kasumi is somewhere in the middle.

White
Most of the time, White represents bravery, purity, nobility, softness, emptiness, knowledge, snow, heaven, peace, life, clean, air, sunlight, surrender, clouds, frost, angels, weakness, protagonist, winter, and innocence. White Rangers have represented bravery, purity, nobility, softness, knowledge, snow, peace, life, clean, winter, and innocence since more than half have been female and half have been male. The one that represented snow and winter is Miyuki, the one that has been complete opposite is Abare Killer. Fuuka is optimistic and jolly. Amu is cute, feminine and also helpful and brave. I don't know Lucky also is counted as a White warrior but he also represents bravery, angel and light.

Black
Black has represented darkness, secrecy, power, mystery, death, fear, antagonist, strong, chaos, evil, bad luck crime, elegance, anarchy, rebellion, non-conformity, individuality, and solidarity. Black Rangers have represented darkness, power, mystery, strength, rebellion, non-conformity, individuality, and solidarity. I don't know if DekaMaster and ZyuohtheWorld are counted as black but in some sources they are. The one in between DynaBlack and GoggleBlack is Magne Warrior from Bioman by the way. Agri of Goseiger is tough and willing to make sacrifices. He represents strength, Ian is a Lothario and a bad boy with a past. He can represent rebellion and non-conformity. Champ represents strength, mystery, and solidarity as a noble robot who wanted to find his creator's killer. ZyuOhtheWorld is a sweet kid that was brought into darkness, mystery and power.

Gold
A cousin to yellow (orange and brown as well BTW) is gold. While green may be the color of U.S. money gold is the color of riches and extravagance. Because gold is a precious metal, the color gold is associated with wealth and prosperity. It can also represent praise, commendation, valuable, positive, superior, outstanding, excellence, and favored person. Most Gold Rangers (save for Marigold and BeetBuster) as Sixth Rangers and are considered the best and powerful. BeetBuster/Masato is odd and playful, Utsusemimaru is seemingly cold and calm but also caring and comforting, Kinji is a naive fanboy who can hold his own. Balance is shady, energetic, and flashy. Patren X hasn't debuted as of yet, so I can't write anything yet. Kinji and Balance represent positive and favored person. The others represent value, excellence and superior.

Silver
Silver, especially a shiny, metallic silver, is cool like gray but livelier, more playful. Silver can be sleek and modern or impart a feeling of ornate riches. Silver often symbolizes riches, just as gold does. Silver can be glamorous and distinguished. While women are seen as old, gray-haired men are seen as graceful aging. The silver-tongued is considered witty, eloquent speaker. Most Silver Rangers (except for Stag J. Beetle/StagBuster) are sixth rangers and are considered the most powerful. Patren X hasn't debuted as of yet, so I can't write anything yet. Only two Silvers have been female and two have been robots. GoseiKnight is mysterious and serious, Gai is the ultimate positive fanboy, Torin is a mentor with a sense of humor, Daigo's dad was mysterious and strong, Naga has no emotion but wants to have it and J is egoist and wants to be cool. So most of them are lively and playful, except for GoseiKnight.

(Art by lunastar2497)
Violet
Purple is associated with royalty and nobility (stemming from classical antiquity when Tyrian Purple was only affordable to the elites). A mysterious color, purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. Since there has only been one Violet/Purple warrior in both franchises, there is not much to go on. Gou/Geki Violet was hot-headed, serious and creative, he cared a lot about his little brother. Wolzard who was dark and mysterious. The original KyoryuViolet was a little flashy but also caring and strong. Yayoi is smart and reserved and has a crush on Daigo. Shou Ronpo is Ryu Commander, is like an old man who had a habit of missing the point, is goofy and doers have a serious side. While Shou Ronpo represents nobility, the Conductor/Toq7gou does not but he is mysterious at times.

Orange
Orange represents desire, fire, engineering, determination, compassion, endurance, and optimism. Fire is repeated from Red and Optimism is repeated from Yellow. The first orange warrior in Sentai is BattleCossack, he was good at science. DekaSwan was also good at science (engineering) but also compassionate and optimistic. Akira is no-nonsense and carefree but somewhat suicidal by his catchphrase. Bud/ZyuohBird is stalwart and mysterious. Stinger is quiet, serious and short-tempered. All of them can stand for compassion and endurance and determination. Akira and Stinger can stand for desire.

Cyan
Cyan is a restful, calming color that symbolizes relaxation, especially that shade of cyan known as bright turquoise which can be the color of the water in lagoons in tropical countries. Cyan not only counts KyoryuCyan and Ooguma Skyblue but also Blue Swan, Blue Ninja, Hurricane Blue, MagiBlue and ZyuOh Shark. Ramirez is brave and caring. Kotaro is optimistic and impulsive. Most of them are cool and relaxed.

Grey
Gray is a cool, neutral, and balanced color. The color gray is an emotionless, moody color that is typically associated with meanings of dull, dirty, and dingy, as well as formal, conservative, and sophisticated. The color gray is a timeless and practical color that is often associated with loss or depression. Tessai represents emotionless and calmness. Shinya has to find courage. Naga/KyoryuSilver also is emotionless.

Super Sentai: Different shades of Colors 2015

Here is the third round of the colors used so far for auxiliary mecha in Sentai. All of them have different shades in their subcategories as well. Many of the auxiliary mecha have debatable colors, is it cyan or aqua or green? Power Ranger names are in italics. I guess this post isn't friendly to those who are color blind. To be clear, I am only covering auxiliary 'zords' and any mecha belonging to antagonists (like Wolzard, and Mele), not main zords of Rangers.

Orange (13)
Gao Giraffe/Giraffe Zord was more like a carrot orange, Gao Jaguar of Gao God/(not given a name) is a pale light orange with tinges of amber color (Crayola's Atomic Tangerine). It is close to peach-orange or coral but it's not. Ankyloveilus/Ankylozord was a yellow-orange or Gamboge, GoGo Drill/Drill Driver was a plain orange, maybe like Home Depot orange, Carrigator/Croczord is a vivid strong shade of orange and Kabuto Origami of Shinkenger (2009) is almost like a orange-red-y color. TyrannoHeader of Goseiger (2010) is a bright orange and one of the Exotic Brother dragon headers is a pale orange-yellow. Kabuto Headder is a dark orange with silver. Toqger (2014)'s CarCarrier Ressha and Claw Ressha are light-orange while Toq6Gou's BuildRessha is a darker orange. Dino Maru from Ninninger (2015) is a similar orange to GoGoDrill.

Different shades of Green (13)
Gao Gorrilla/Green Gorilla was a regular green, Gao Ligator/Alligator was a dark green, but the toy was just a darker shade that Gorrilla. Gao Deer/Deer was a light paler green. Trance Spider/Spider Power Sphere was a basic green, the same shade as Shurikenger/Green Samuari Ranger. Parasarokkiru/Parazord was lime green. Rin Chameleon/Chameleon was a basic green. GoGoMixer/Cement Driver was like a JohnDeer Green. GekiElephant/Elephant sure does stand out with the other greens doesn't it? I really feel it is part of the teal/cyan ones but EVERYONE, many fans, say it is green. So I put it here to show it is not really that green. I believe it is a dark teal or dark Cerulean. One of the Exotic Brother dragons of Goseiger (2010) is a toxic acid green and the Mystic Runner is a dark shade of forest green, almost the shade of the Trance Spider. Shield Ressha of Toqger (2014) is a dark green, Paonmaru from Ninninger (2015) is a similar green to Trance Spider and Mystic Runner. FS-00 from Go-Busyers (2012) is a regular green, similar to Gao Gorilla.

Periwinkle / Cyan / Teal (16)
Gao Elephant/Elephant Zord, as I mentioned before was the first to be of this unique combination of the colors blue and green. This color is the most highly debated color, is it green or blue? Gao Elephant is teal or cerulean and Gao Rhino is Colombina Blue or a mix of maya blue with cerulean. Gao Condor was like a dark cyan. Tortuise Hammer/Turtle Mace, one of the Karakuri Balls, was a Cornflower Blue. Dimenokodon/Dimetrozord was like a light teal, Go Go Shovel/Shovel Driver was cyan (brighter than periwinkle), Geki Shark/Shark Zord was aqua, K-Line/(not given a name in RPM) is light periwinkle, very pale, and Marlin Kaijiki/Swordfish Zord (Shinkenger 2009/Samurai) is a dark cyan, it is more blue than green. And as for Goseiger 2010, we got the three Seaick Brothers that are more or less the same shade of teal. The Sawshark is a bit darker and the Mantaray is brighter. And one of the Exotic Brothers is a light sea-green shade too. In Kyoruger (2013)/Dino Charge (2015), Kyoryu Cyan has a periwinkle Ankydon/Ankylo Zord. Toqger (2014) has Tank Reesha that is cyan and Ninninger (2015) has UFOmaru which is the same shade.

Indigo / Navy (12)
Whatever people might call this color, purple or blue, it is a darker shade of blue. I would consider Squid Attacker/(no name given), GoGo Crane/Crane Driver, and GekiBat/Bat Zord indigo. Gorai Stag/Navy Beetlezord is of course Navy. Jumbo-whale/Whale Zord is Royal Blue, a light navy color if that makes sense. Carnoryutus (Abaranger 2003) is a interesting shade, like a pale Ultramarine and a bit grey-ier. Goseiger (2010): Gosei Bird is indigo-cobalt blue, Sea Lion is regular blue and Gosei Dolphin is dark blue with yellow. Li-Oh of Go-Busters (2012) is highly debated if Indigo or purple. Tobaspino/Spinozord from Kyoryuger (2013)/Dino Charge (2015-2016) is navy. Drill Ressha from Toqger (2014) is also navy.

Purple / Violet (10)
GaoHammer/Hammerhead Shark was the first purple anything in Sentai history, it was a vivid and perky shade of violet. GaoMajiro/Armadillo Zord was a lavender color, light violet. Kabuto Gani/Sting Blaster was a like a Royal Purple. Bakikeonagrus/Cephalazord is a mildly-dark violet with mixes of red or Electric Indigo. Geki Wolf/Wolf Zord was more of a purple than a violet. Violet is tangy, more pink-ish. I am covering GekiViolet/Wolf Ranger's mecha/zord because there is so little purple. Ika Origami of Shinkenger (2009) is white and lavender. One of the Exotic Brother Dragons of Goseiger (2010) is a tangy purple. Plesion/Plesiozord from Kyoryuger (2013)/Dino Charge (2015-2016) is purple with white. Toq7Gou's Ressha (2014) is briefly seen and purple re-color of Build Ressha. SurfMaru from Ninninhger (2015) is a similar purple to Kabuto Gani.

Non-Ranger White (8)
These are auxilary zords that don't belong to White Rangers. Gao Polar/Polar Bear and Gao Panda were silverly-white. (Gao Panda only appeared as a toy and CD exclusive) Gattling Leo/Lion Laser was just plain white. Unikirion/Brightstar was plain white, maybe a bit pearl-y. T-Line/(not given a name in RPM) was like a silver-y or grey-ish white. Tora Origami of Shinekenger (2009) is white and black. Crow Header of Goseiger (2010) is white, red and silver with green eye.

Crimson / Maroon / Different shades of Red (17)
The Gao Sawshark of Gao God/(not given a name) was a violet-tinged Maroon and so was Kishamoth/Paleozord. Gorai Beetle/Crimson Insectizord was Crimson. Stegsorideon or Stegazord was Burgundy. Stryacosaurus/Mezodon Rover was like a red-orange. The ones that were just plain red was Gao Kong, Gao Falcon/Falcon, The Stamp/Super Stamp, Pitashito Hitode/Star Blazer and GogoJet/Sonic Streaker. Kyoryu Origami is like a dark crimson and the Bull Ushi Origami of Shinkenger (2009) is a shade of red like Stryacosaurus. Ushi Origami of Shinkenger is just red. Kyoryu Origami is a scarlet and maroonish color. HawkHeader of Goseiger (2010) is red, a bit deeper shade than the Dragon. GoseiSkyleon is bright red. In Toqger (2014), Diesel Ressha is maroon and Fire Ressha is bright red-orange. In Ninninger (2015), Lion Ha-Oja is just red.

Non-Ranger Black (10)
A new shade I decided to cover. Gao Bear/Bear Zord was a pale black, GaoLeon was a Gunmetal black in Gaoranger (2001). Valkyrion/Catastros of Magiranger (2005) was black. RinLion of Gekiranger (2007) was black and gold. The three Engines of the DaiShogun of Go-Onger (2008) were black with red and yellow accents. KuwagataHeader of Goseiger (2010) is a different shade of black. Crocodile Headder is silver and black . In Toqger (2014), Police Ressha is black, white and grey.

Non-Ranger Shades of Yellow (4)
Goat Crusher/Ram Hammer of Hurricanger (2002)/Ninja Storm was just yellow. Spin Bee/Bee Spinner was a golden yellow. Rhino Header of Goseiger (2010) is a lemon-y yellow. And Elephant Header is orange-yellow.

Too Little Too Late: Violet Toqger

Like Shinkenger and Goseiger that had an 'After' special after the episodes aired, Toqger will have one too. Zet becomes ToQ Zet in the V-Cinema special. And it's Violet! Could he be friend or foe.

PMC 4: Exclusive Ranger Keys Drama

If you didn't know, there was two Ranger Keys that were exclusively sold at Power Morphicon. They were $10 but limit one per customer. They had only 500 copies. Of the three days of Power Morphicon, they had special tickets. A certain amount of tickers were given out per day called "Guaranteed Tickets" and "Raffle Tickets." If the Guaranteed tickets were finished, you'd get a raffle ticket with a number. If your number was at the booth, you'd get the keys. Friday the line started at 3pm and since Gold and Platinum members were preferred, they got to go first. Some other members got to get tickets after but I don't know if any got Guaranteed ones.
I only got a raffle ticket Friday. I decided for Saturday I would go early. The line was to start at 9am so I heard people would be there at 7 so I went down at 6:45 or so in the morning. There were a few guys but we were looking at the stunt guys practicing the Make A Wish thing. And then when we turned around, people were making a line. Like I didn't even know where it would begin and they were like 'you snooze, you lose.' SO you know what? I got Opaque red ranger keys from SDCC thanks to Power Force so I didn't give those guys any keys (and they let people skipped) and gave keys to those who let me go ahead to get to the Power Force Breakfast (at 9am). So I managed to get the ticket and run to the breakfast on time more or less. And then at the Breakfast I find out I got another copy of the Titanium and Violet keys! I wanted to get two-one for me and one for Jaiden, my grand-nephew/son.

I am not complaining but I think it's funny that David DeLatour charge $10 to sign the key pack and Rhett only charged $5 or maybe it changed later, I do not know. Above keys are the special Red Super Megaforce Ranger and Transparent Green Mighty Morphin Ranger Keys from SDCC that Saban Brands handed out to cosplayers. More on that on my next post. Now, I am not complaining about Power Morphicon at all, it's awesome. I am complaining about Bandai and how nobody knew no answers and it was confusing as why they did this.
