Dennou Keisatsu Cybercop: Another Toho Production

Dennou Keisatsu Cybercop (Electro-Brain Police Cybercops) was first created in 1988 by Toho Enterprises, the show was an attempt to create a Tokusatsu series using the Super Sentai motif, but the idea was dropped after the unaired episode zero. The show was broadcast in NTV between mid-1988 and 1989. Due to financial problems, Tomoko's armor, Venus Bit, was never built. Many fans believe this show to be a stepping stone to the Chouseishin Series (Gransezar). A sequel was made to this series but animated, it was canceled due to poor ratings, ending in37 episodes, it was called Armored Police Metal Jack.

In the year 1999 (which at the time was 11 years later), crime has overrun Tokyo city, Japan. Hopelessly outmanned, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Force decides to setup a special taskforce codenamed “ZAC” (Zero-Section Armed Constable), designed for special missions. The heroes wore "Bit Suits", three high-powered armors: Mars, Saturn and Mercury. In the first episode, a mysterious young man, Shinya Takeda, appears from nowhere and saves the day after using his own armor, the Jupiter Bit Suit. Following his victory, he joins ZAC, which starts to battle the evil organization Death Trap, ruled by Baron Kageyama, which manages to use the computers' will-power to gain world domination.

Shinya Takeda/Jupiter
Found by the Interpol rescue team, Takeda had a secret past he couldn't remember. He was fun-loving, but had a tempers. Jupiter is able to summon his own Cyber Thunder Arm, through a process called Cyber Boming, which ultimately kills his nemesis. The Jupiter Bit is the most advanced bit in ZAC arsenal and is far more powerful than any of the other Bit Suits. Later, it is revealed that Takeda was brought in to the year 1999 by a time-space portal fend, which opened after the Babylon Tower's explosion in the 23rd century, along with Lucifer and Kageyama. For Sailor Moon, Jupiter was green.

Tomoko Uesugi
Backup ZAC officer for the Cybercop. Monitors and assists with the maintenance of Cybernation and Black Chamber systems. Falls in love with Takeda. Carries the standard ZAC firearm, the S.D. Gun. I don't know how to feel about her not having amror, if it is a bad thing that she has no armor because she is female or that she is strong enough to fight without armor. In an manga version afterwards, her Venus bit armor did appear.

Ryoichi Mouri/Saturn
Jokester, does not enjoy fighting, eventually doing it because of his duties. His armor is equipped with numerous sensory and communication equipment which help aid the team in tracking down enemies and collecting data. His helmet antenna and his shoulder parabola sonar units can perform a wide range of surveillance, reconnaissance and tracking duties, making it the most vulnerable Bit Suit. For Sailor Moon, Saturn was purple.

Akira Houjyo/Mars
The team leader, Akira's father committed suicide when he was 8 years old, making him to become rebellious and to use his intelligence to hack the system of the enterprise in which his father worked in, eventually bankrupting it. After that, he was practically raised by Captain Oda. His armor is designed specifically to provide heavy artillery and firearms support. Due to the size of his suit, is one of the slower units and hampers Hojyo’s movements a bit. His armor is outfitted with “Stabilize Gear”, which brace his armor when he uses his heavy guns. It is funny how Mars is usually red, but here it is green.

Osamu Saiyonji/Mercury
Sayionji’s is the resident hand-to-hand combat specialist. Osamu is very brave and has a great fighting spirit. His armor is the most lightweight of the armors and affords him extreme flexibility in movement and speed albeit at the cost of defense and protection. His unit is the fastest of the “Cyber Bit” armors and he can travel at incredible speeds . Mercury also has access to the “Linear Speeder” skates that can be controlled via brainwave controls in the Bit Suit helmet. It is funny how in Sailor Moon, Mercury is light blue too.

Lucifer
Takeda's ex-partner in the future, was also transported with him and Kageyama to the 20th century through the same time-space portal. At first, his only wish is to avenge his dead comrades, targeting Jupiter as his nemesis and challenging him to a death confront. He allies with Baron Kageyama believing Takeda was the traitor who murdered his companions. Eventually, it is revealed that Kageyama was the mole. From then, Lucifer decides to aid the Cybercops without joining the group, helping them in battle more often than not. Lucifer's bit, along with Jupiter's, is the most powerful of the Bit Suits, as it is more equipped and enhanced than the others. Armed with two high-power pistols called Impulse Magnum, two machine-guns which come from his back to shoulders, the Pulsar Cannon, Gigamax and the Cyber Graviton, an energy absorber-release on his chest.

Seven Star Fighting God Guyferd

Shichisei Tōshin Guyferd (Seven Star Fighting God Guyferd) was made by Toho and Capcom, and aired on TV Tokyo in 1996. Guyferd borrows aspects from Bio Booster Armor Guyver (another Tokusatsu) and Fist of the North Star (manga). Only lasted 26 episodes. Gou Kazama studied the Ken'nou-ryu technique of karate with his elder brother Masato. Gou's transformation into Guyferd is a result of his Guyborg modified body merging with the parasite Fallah, which he was infected with during his travels in Peru prior to the series.

Zodiac is the ruler of Crown, he was a scientist who discovered the Fallah symboite in South America and intended to use it to evolve humanity, developing a god complex and ideology based on natural selection. To achieve that goal, he had Crown unearth the Ancient Scientific Citadel intending to use its ancient technology to cause cataclysmic disasters around the world thus heralding the mass worldwide infestation of Fallah. Megumi Shion is the one who took Shiroishi's place in Fallah research, using her Mutiants to capture Gou to research his anatomy to perfect the ultimate soldier project. But once it became possible to infuse a Guyborg with a Fallah, her mission changes to eliminate Gou.

Select Gransazer Images from Scans

How the sites Ranger Central, Super Sentai Time Capsule, Rider Legacy and Toku Central work out is Mike gets the books and scan them. I write the material, he sets up the section. He scanned Gransazer and told me to make the section for Toku Central. He says the only book of the Seishin series that was made was Gransazer, not Justirizer, nor Sazer-X. I thought I'd post up just a few pictures I found interesting. Please do not leave comments or questions or suggestions about other sections of my sites, they will be when they will be done and I don't know when. Just keep comments about Gransazer please.

The Legend of the Rainbowman

Warrior of Love Rainbowman was created by Kōhan Kawauchi, this was the first superhero TV series produced by Toho Company Ltd., and was broadcast on NET (which is now TV Asahi) from October 1972 to September 1973, 52 episodes.

Just like Kawauchi's earlier 7-Color Mask (1959), this series has a superhero with 7 different identities. Takeshi Yamato, the Rainbowman, transformed into 7 different superhero forms (called "Dashes"). Dash 1 is moon, Dash 2 is fire, Dash 3 is water, Dash 4 is wood, Dash 5 is gold, Dash 6 is earth, and the main Dash, 7, is the sun.

In 1982, there was a 22-episode Anime remake of this series and had an updated version of the original theme song, it was very loosely based on this show: A young man commands 7 giant robots, and activate a larger giant robot.

Non-Toei Tokusatsu from Japan, Thailand, and France

Aikoku Sentai Dai-Nippon (1982)
Aikoku Sentai Dai-Nippon (Patriot Squadron Great Japan) was produced by Daicon Films (now Gainax). It was a Sentai Pastiche or homage. Check out more about it at this Japanese site.

Jushi Sentai France Five (2000)
At firt glance I thought this was a fanfiction film, but actually they are four episodes in France. It was produced by Buki X-1 Productions in 2000s. It is an homage to Toei's ever-popular Super Sentai Series, which was extremely popular in France in the 1980s. This series is said to be a nod to another Sentai pastiche, Aikoku Sentai Dai-Nippon. The series has become kind of popular in Japan, with singer Akira Kushida singing an original theme for Episode 4. Prior to that point, the themes were French remixes of older Sentai theme songs (Choujin Sentai Jetman and Choudenshi Bioman) with an original French theme.

Chouseishin Series (2003-2006)
2003 was a heck of a year for Tokusatsu, there was Abaranger, Kamen Rider Faiz, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and Gransezar. The Super Star God Series were produced by Toho Company, Ltd., in association with Konami. They had three series: Gransezar, Justirizer and Sazer-X. Gransezar had lots of warriors, females in white and red, blue, orange & fuschia, males in blue, indigo, purple, red, yellow and yellow-orange; Justirizer had a girl in blue, males in red and black; Sazer-X only had males (Orange, White and Blue).

Squadron Sport Ranger ขบวนการ สปอร์ตเรนเจอร์ (2006)
It had sixteen episodes in Thailand in 2006 and was the first original tokusatsu from Thailand in a while, but it was first to look the most like Super Sentai. Many fans have asked me to mention this series. Starhunter is an alien tribe that steals all life energy on other planets, gathering the energy through medals. One medal was split into five and when Starhunter came to Earth, the Sport Ranger were formed to fight them. Red, Yellow, Green were male and Pink and Blue were female.

Wecker Signa (2007)
The third installment of the Wecker series, it is the only one where the girls are actually suited up with helmets. Their colors were pink, orange, purple and black. They made toys of both their regular forms and armored forms. This aired in Japan.

Tomica Hero: Rescue Force and Tomica Hero: Rescue Fire (2008-2010)
Broadcast on Japan's TV Aichi, the Tomica Hero series based on Takara Tomy's Tomica toy car line. Rescue Force started out April 2008 and was followed by the sequel Rescue Fire. Rescue Force is deployed to protect human lives from various disasters too extreme for normal rescue workers, started with blue, silver, black, gold were men and red and white were female. Both series had 51 episodes and a movie. In Fire, orange, silver, cyan and black were male and green is female. There was Rescue Aqua planned, I don't know if it went into production but now the project is on hold.
