Hero Profile: Koseidon

Thanks to Abiel Joshua Sywho brought this to my attention because I had no idea.
恐竜戦隊コセイドン/Kyōryū Sentai Koseidon (Dinosaur Corps Koseido)
I had no idea about this series, even though it is called Sentai, it is not an official Super Sentai and the hero was not part of a team but it was just one guy. I don't know if it is from Toei. Four men and two women, all wearing the same orange-red uniform, travel backwards through time to rescue scientists studying dinosaurs and end up fighting alien invaders who if not defeated will change history. The time travelers are from 2001. This series came out in 1978. It had 52 episodes. It was a Tsuburaya Productions production and aired on the NECO channel.

The fan believes Gobusters look like this guy because of the jacket.

The suit actors for him were 二家本辰巳 who did Ultraman Leo and Tetsuya Onishi. Info from the Japanese Wikipedia.

Hero Profile: Gavan

This month the movie Gokaiger vs. Gavan premieres in Japan, but who is Gavan?
Earth is invaded by the Makuu Empire, led by Don Horror, who had first destroyed a space colony near Earth. Don Horror wants to dominate the whole universe and sends spaceships to create panic on Earth. While the Makuu is trying to impose its domination, Space Sheriff Gavan from the Galactic Union Patrol, arrives in his spaceship, the Dolgiran. He is the son of Tamiko Ichijouji and Voicer. When needed, he is teleported via a silver chrome combat suit using the Jouchaku process which consists of fusing Granium particles to Gavan's body. He is an accomplished athlete and has various weapons at his disposal. On Earth, he uses the name Retsu Ichijoji.

He comes from the Bird Planet, the planet where Space Sheriffs are trained and where they are stationed while on call. Gavan is asked to defend the Earth, which is his mother's planet of origin. Gavan is helped by Mimi, the daughter of Commander Qom, and is given information by Qom, assisted by Marin on his home planet. Gavan goes to Earth to defend it against Don Horror and his devilish schemes. He settles on Earth incognito, using his actual human name, Retsu Ichijouji; he takes a job at the Avalon Youth Club in Japan. In the Uchuu Keiji Crossover, Gavan announces to Sharivan and Shaider that he has proposed to Mimi.

He has been played by Kenji Oba, he has played this role in six different shows or movies. First in Uchû keiji Gyaban (Space Sherrif Gavan) and then later in Sharivan and Shaider. In the special Space Cop Shaider: Pursuit! Shigi Shigi Abduction Plan in 1985. Then in one episode of Chojinki Metalder in 1987 and World Ninja War Jiraiya in 1988. And finally Gokaiger vs. Gavan in 2012 where he plays the dual roles of Ichijouji Retsu and Shirou Akebono from Battle Fever J and Denjiman respectively.

Heronie Profile: Kujaku

Oh, Kujaku, how I love Kujaku. I don't know how to even explain who she is or what she did. Basically she is an immortal who worshiped a peacock Buddha (no kidding) and she had a vendetta with Gara, the villainess of Dairanger since they were kids. Basically, Gara got her face scarred when she was little and Kujaku dedicated her life to finding a special plant or something to cure her face, but once she was done with her training, Gara had become a Gorma and was ready for vendetta.

Kujaku gets herself trapped in a monster mirror of the Gorma and Daigo (Shishi Ranger) saves her in 1993, since then he fell in love with her. But she was busy fending off the vendetta of Gara and searching for the cure plant/tear thing. I wouldn't necessarily call her a hero, but maybe she was like a lone warrior. She did occasionally help the Dairanger, but mostly just fought Gara. In the end, Daigo and Kujaku found the tears but it was too late. Kujaku dies and becomes a heavenly demi-god. And near the end, Gara discovers she is just a clay copy when Kujaku comes down from Heaven with the real soul of the good Gara.

Funny thing is that Peacocks that we know are male, the big blue shiny ones are males and the females are small, brown and boring. But media continues to tie peacocks with females (think back to She-Ra and Peek-a-blue).

Heroine Profile: Kamen Rider Larc

Kamen Rider Larc is the alter ego of Natsumi Miwa. She first appears in Kamen Rider Blade: Missing Ace. Natsumi Miwa originally applied as an office worker, but was berated by the boss. As a result, she knocked him out after having enough of his words. She was handpicked, along with Shin, by Glaive to become the New Generation Riders for BOARD to capture the Undead released by the Albino Joker. She is armed with the L'arc Rouzer, a crossbow. H

er weapon is based on the Garren Rouser and the Chalice Arrow. Her primary finisher is Ray Bullet, a supercharged energy arrow. She was killed by the Albino Joker shortly after all the Category King Undeads had been resealed. Her rider name, "Larc", may come from the French words "l'arc" which means "the bow", being the replacement of Chalice, as well as Garren, for the team's long range fighter.

In Kamen Rider Decade, she was played b the same actress and had the same name, but she didn't appear in Blade World, but in the WOrld of Diend. Haruka Miwa is a young woman who resists Fourteen as Kamen Rider Larc. She took part in the operation to overthrow Fourteen and ended up escaping with Shin when the operation was a failure. Since then, she has been on the run from Fourteen's minions. She helps fill Tsukasa in on what is currently happening in her world.

Hero Profile: Ultraman Great

Ultraman: Towards the Future is a 13 episode series produced in 1990 in Australia by the South Australian Film Corporation and Japan's Tsuburaya Productions (the creators of the Ultraman character). The first 6 episodes were the "Goudes Threat" story arc. Distributed in the United States by Sachs Family Entertainment, the show was broadcast in weekly syndication from 4 January to 28 March 1992. Although simply called "Ultraman" in the original Australian version, he is called "Ultraman Great" in Japan to differentiate him from the established original Ultraman. At the time, eco-awareness was at a high, and many episodes included environmental themes. Ultraman's three minute time limit is also attributed to "Earth's polluted atmosphere" in this version.

Jack Shindo and Stanely Haggard are members of the first manned expedition to Mars, and on the red planet find a giant slug-like monster, Goudes/Gudis. Suddenly the giant warrior, Ultraman, arrives and fights Goudes, but is knocked down for a period. Shindo is pinned by a rockslide and Haggard tries to escape in their ship but is blown up by Gudis. It is then that Ultraman gets up, and when he is on the verge of victory Goudes changes into a virus and travels to Earth, where it mutates other creatures into monsters and awakens existing ones.

Needing a human host to survive on Earth, Ultraman joins with Jack, allowing him to become the mighty alien when all seems lost. He joins the Universal Multipurpose Agency, or UMA, in order to help them battle the monsters. Halfway through the series a new Goudes, more powerful than the first, appears. It imprisons Ultraman, but Jack ultimately shows it the futility of its mission. Even if it does manage to corrupt all life, eventually there will be nothing else to corrupt, and Goudes is destroyed once and for all. For the rest of the series the environmental themes are stronger and the monsters usually arise from human pollution.

In the series finale, a doomsday scenario begins with the appearance of three powerful monsters: Kilazee, Kodalar, and the Earth itself, which tries to wipe out the human race for abusing it. Ultraman is defeated by Kodalar, but Jack survives. Ultimately the humans use an ancient disc to destroy Kodalar by reflecting its own power at it and Ultraman defeats Kilazee and carries it into space, separating Jack from him and restoring him on Earth as a normal human. The victory is seen as another chance for the human race.

Hero Profile: Ultraman Powered

Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero was produced in the US in 1993 by Major Havoc Entertainment (later renamed Steppin Stone Entertainment) and Tsuburaya Productions (the creators of the Ultraman character), with a total of 13 episodes. Following the footsteps of the Australian-produced Ultraman: Towards the Future, this was the second live-action Ultra Series produced outside Japan. Titled Ultraman Powered for Japanese release, the show was released on home video there on December 17, 1993.

However, despite being produced in America, the show was never broadcast here. The members of WINR (pronounced "Winner") respond when members of the alien Baltan race attack Earth, but the Baltans are only fended off when a gigantic alien, Ultraman Powered, joins with WINR member Kenichi Kai and gives him the power to metamorphose into Ultraman in times of danger. At the end of the first episode Ultraman declares that the Baltans were not completely defeated and that he will remain on Earth to continue the fight. WINR and Ultraman destroy numerous other monsters, but WINR learns that the Baltans were arranging all the battles to learn Ultraman's strengths and weaknesses.

They also learn Kai's secret identity when Ultraman is injured by Dorako and Kai sports an identical wound. In the finale the Baltans unleash their most powerful monster, Zetton. Ultraman separates from Kai and takes on Zetton, but is overwhelmed. Ultraman's color timer is flashing more and more rapidly as he tries to blast Zetton only to have Zetton easily withstand the blasts. He then summons more energy despite the risk to fire a shot at Zetton's ship. This causes the shot to bounce off it towards Z-ton's back but he turns and blocks the shot. Ultraman then falls over backwards as his energy is completely drained. Before he can perish completely, other members of the Ultra race, appearing as balls of light, arrive and convert Ultraman into a red ball of light so that he can return home. Ultraman returns home with them and the last we see is his face in the red ball with his eyes red from anger. This is the only time that Red King is actually red (as opposed to gold & blue).

Hero Profile: Ultraman Tiga

Ultraman Tiga (9/8/96 - 8/30/97)
Tiga is the first Ultraman with multiple combat modes and non-red colors. Because of Tiga's popularity, he had more exposure on TV and movies than any other Heisei Ultraman. Ultraman Tiga was dubbed in English by 4Kids Entertainment and broadcast in the United States as part of the Fox Box programming block, the third Ultra Series to air in the United States. Set in the years 2007-2010 (2049 in the U.S. dub), giant monsters and conquering aliens start to appear, as was foretold by an apocalyptic prophecy. Facing the threat, the TPC (Terrestrial Peaceable Consortium) is created and its branch, GUTS (Global Unlimited Task Squad). Through a holographic message in a capsule found by researchers, the GUTS gets knowledge about a golden pyramid built by an ancient civilization.

At the site, three statues of a race of giants who defended early human civilization on Earth about 30,000,000 years ago from Super-Ancient Monsters and other forces of darkness are found, but two of them are destroyed by the monsters Golza and Melba. The third statue gains life from the spiritual energy of officer Daigo, descendant of the ancient race. Daigo and the remaining statue merge into a single being, made of light. Shortly after defeating the two monsters, Daigo is revealed by the hologram of the prophecy that 30 million years in the past, a great evil that not even the giants could stop, destroyed the ancient civilization. The same evil reappears in the finale of the series, the Ruler of Darkness Ghatanothoa, and his servants, Gijera and Zoigar.

Ghatanothoa defeats Ultraman Tiga with ease, withstanding the Delcalium Light Stream and a modified version of the Zepellion Ray, both Tiga's finishes, and turns him back into a statue, but the light of humanity is able to turn him into Glitter Tiga, giving him the power to defeat Ghatanothoa and save the Earth. Daigo was no longer able to become Tiga. It is ultimately revealed that Tiga's energy now remains in the heart of all those who believe in Tiga, inner-strength and justice. Given the right conditions such as times of despair, the sparks will gather and Tiga statue will be revitalized. In the movie "The Final Odyssey", set in two years after Tiga's final battle, Daigo was approached by a mysterious woman who possessed a dark version of the Spark Lens. It is then revealed that more than 30,000,000 years ago, Tiga was originally evil in nature, part of a group of four that dominated Earth. The group consisted of Dark Tiga, the woman in gold with telepathic abilities, an evil Ultraman in red with superhuman strength and another in purple with superhuman speed.

One day, Tiga fell in love with a local human, and decided to convert from darkness to protect her from harm. Being the the weakest of the four, Tiga quickly became a target of the group. However, unbeknownst to the group, the original "talentless" Dark Tiga possessed the ability to absorb powers from fallen enemies. As he eliminated each of the three dark members, he absorbed their powers which explains new Tiga's color patterns (purple, red and gold lined with his original silver). Convinced by his ability to convert the last known Spark Lens to good, Daigo accepts the gift and becomes Tiga again once again, survives his inner struggles and vanishes the darkness within.

Keigo Masaki/Evil Tiga
A world class top scientist. He is also a descendant of the ancient race, like Daigo, and bears similar DNA. He found another Ultraman statue in Kumamoto, similar to the ones that Tiga was imprisoned as. Masaki feels he has just as much right as Daigo to inherit the light and transcend his humanity to become god-like but the only thing he lacks is a transformation item, like Daigo's Spark Lens, to allow him to transform into the Ultraman. To prepare himself for what he feels is his birthright, Masaki has trained his body to be strong and powerful, and physically worthy of being an Ultraman. Masaki feels Daigo does not deserve the monopoly he has on the light, so Masaki beats an exhausted Daigo, who just defeated Geoshark, and thus acquires the transformation item he lacks.

A dog leads Daigo to Masaki's base in a cavern, but Daigo is unable to talk Masaki out of it. Masaki places the stolen Spark Lens in a converter, which is protected by an electric barrier, changing his body into light particle and merging with the Ultraman statue. However he lacks the heart and has greedy and selfish intention, thus corrupting the new giant of light into a giant of darkness, Evil Tiga, and causing him to start rampaging into the city. Ultimately, Daigo able to recover the Spark Lens as he forces himself to endure the electricity and is able to break through by force of will to the Spark Lens. After a bitter fight, Tiga gains the upper hand and wounds Evil Tiga enough that he can fire his Zepellion Beam, vaporizing his corrupted counterpart.

While sharing most of Tiga's powers, Evil Tiga also shared his weakness of only being able to remain on Earth for a certain period of time. Its unknown if Evil Tiga can switch forms like Tiga can, due to the short period of time in which he appeared. While Evil Tiga was destroyed, Keigo survived and was captured by authorities. In the end of the series, Keigo returned to help GUTS revive Ultraman Tiga after his defeat at Gatanozoa's hands, in order to redem his misdeeds. While GUTS kept Gatanozoa busy, Keigo went down in a submarine and used a beam of light in an attempt to revive the hero and while Gatanozoa stopped him, Keigo's attempt revived Daigo deep inside the statue, allowing him to see the children of the world call out to him and use their light to revive Tiga as Glitter Tiga.
