Mythical Destiny - Director's Commentary

You don't have to listen to my commentary, but I love commentaries and have listened to a lot of them. I know not a lot of people like commentaries. Also wanted to say that the reason Larry (Green) is called Larry is because it was his personal request since he never heard of a Ranger name like that. He love Super Sentai and especially the monsters. Raquel (Pink) wasn't that into PR but now loves being a Power Ranger, she kept her jacket. Alexis (Yellow) was indifferent but seen the movies before as a kid. Sean (Red) was a fan since a kid, he has seen MMPR to Lightspeed and knows of SPD. Peter (Blue) didn't really know much but remember MMPR and imitated Jason in the dub. Johnny (Vorous) knows a lot of PR, mostly Saban era and knows some Sentai. In fact, he was going to be a Bulk-like character.

The Opening:

MYTHICAL DESTINY FAN FILM

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED.

View Discretion is Advised. This is a non-profit project, lots of sweat ad blood. Thank you so much to those who helped, this took around three years. Power Rangers is property of Saban Brands and Gosei Sentai Dairanger is property of Toei Company. The following is for no profit and meant for fun and inspired by fans.

This is the story (similar to Shinkenger) where 5 youngsters have destiny to fulfill because their families fought and they trained too. Set in 2005. Tyson (Red) doesn't think he needs the help and Larry (Green) doesn't want to do it. Marvin, their tech guy, sets out to collect all five of them.

I know some scenes you cant hear what they are saying, some scenes blurry, some don't match lighting (one bright, one dark) and some sound effects are wrong places. No time to reshoot and we all did this for free in our spare time. There is a reason it is amateur! And yes, I know it's short. I'll be releasing a Director's Commentary soon!

Mythical Destiny Online August 31st

Finally finished with my fan film Mythical Destiny. It took 2 years and it's not perfect and there are lots of things I wish I could fix. It is what it is, no excuses. Have a laugh. This was much harder than I originally thought. I shot this in the span of two summers, I didn't shoot anything at all during fall, winter or spring because of work, family problems and scheduling. All that could go wrong went wrong, my camera broke down (that's why some scenes are blurry--I did get a new camera), I got a mono microphone so some of the sound is off, some things you can't understand what they are saying, two people moved away and I had to re-cast one of the Rangers, so all the mistakes I'm using to go along with the comedy effect.

It's a comedy hands down. Anywayz, I'm going to have a big premiere with my friends on August 30th and it will be online on the YouTube channel August 31st and I will later post it here on Henshin Grid. The 30th I will have a big premiere with my friends with a fake red carpet in a big university auditorium and will take pictures and post them up here.

"Spicy Pepper" is just an ADR line, it won't be in the actual video. That was just a joke I liked.

My Fan Webisode "Mythical Destiny" is almost finished

I know we agreed on "Mythical Destiny" but after telling multiple people and gauging their reactions.

Legal Stuff: The fan film is not to find profit, it is purely for fun. Five descendants of warriors that fought for generation after generation to save the world from manifestation of anger, pain and depression. They were trained in an academy but it has now been destroyed and it is up to them to form a team. Marvin, descendant of trainers and mentors must convince some of them as well. This webisode is currently still in production, I will have it out on this blog Henshin Grid by Mid-October. I am having a team song made by my composer friend. It might appear on Youtube later on as well. I will be releasing a preview/promo/trailer soon.

Sean Gonzalez as Tyson Roman/Red

Seemingly an arrogant jerk, he is disciplined and bad ass fighter leader.

Raquel Santiago as Niki Hart/Pink
Niki dreams of being a bride. When her friend is injured, she vows for vengeance.

Peter Castillo as Rodrick Williams/Blue

He dreamed of being a doctor, but has to fulfill his duties.

Larry Leiva as Larry Nunez/Green
Apathetic guy, he didn't train that much and doesn't want to join the team.

Alexis Crowley as Jane Moore/Yellow

She is outspoken and sardonic. She recently broke up with her boyfriend, has a crush on Rodrick. I made Yellow female because I originally was doing Shinkenger and had no one else to recast.

Here is the Rangertalk topic about it if you want to talk about it
More Photos on my Flickr Account
I still have to do the photoshoot with Yellow, that's why her picture doesn't have the jacket.

The main villain is Vorous, based on Zilong from Dairanger.
Rest of the Cast
Lestre Escoto ... Marvin
Natasha Caplan ... Skylar, Niki's Friend
Johnny Midnite ... Vorous (above)

Update on my Fan Fiction Project Mythical Destiny

Some asked me if Yellow would be a girl. Because I had already cast for a Shinkenger -based project, I had 2 girls. Yellow is a girl, I wish I could have done Yellow male and Green female, but I already had a lock on Green, my Green didn't want to change. And my Blue wanted to be the first male Pink Ranger but my Pink didn't want to change either and I didn't want a male Pink Ranger with a skirt on, also based on some character developments that I didn't want the character stereotyped, you will see. Anyways, yeah in the end, Pink is a girl and Yellow is a girl.

As for ethnicity, because I live in Miami (a city full of Hispanics/Latinos), I had no choice to go with Hispanics. I am Hispanic. Originally I had my African-American friend as Blue but he had to drop out for reasons I cannot divulge. And I had my Asian friend was in selection for Yellow, which maybe was controversial. But since Will was the second African-American Black Ranger, I figure it shouldn't matter because race shouldn't be a big deal. She is camera shy and didn't feel comfortable doing it. Ultimately, Red is Cuban-American, Blue and Pink are half Puerto-Rican and half Dominican, Yellow is Caucasian, and Green is half Cuban, half Ecuadoran. I really tried have African-American rangers, but many were busy and couldn't do it.

And it's been really hard to get my five friends together. Also, it is extremely hard to shoot in Miami in the summer. Lots and lots of rain and it is Hurricane season. And when there is sun, it is smoking hot, hard to work in. I made masks of the Cotportos footsoliders and they didn't look so great, but the best I could do with little money, it is extremely hot under the costumes, even when there is air conditioning. So I had to scrap the fighting scenes. I had to scrap many scenes I planned because of scheduling conflicts, everyone is either in school, working or both. Also, my camera tripod broke and other things like that. Basically what I am saying is that there will be only one episode and I'm not doing anymore because it is so hard to get everyone together. And it is going to get harder when September comes around because of college and work. Oh and I'm not recasting. I now understand why Celestial Fury has taken so long to come out.

Voting Results: My Fan Film Project

It is time to come clean. Before I found out Saban was adapting Shinkenger, I decided (with my degree in TV Production) to do my own fan film using Shinkenger footage but not call it 'Power Rangers' because of copyright infringement. But I had already bought a lot of props and equipment already and decided not to go through with a Shinkenger adaptation because of new developments (i.e. Saban adapting the series). I am not connected in anyway to Disney or Saban, I am just a fan like everyone else. I did some polls on this blog but did not reveal the results or their real intention.

Also recently I got a comment from this fan: Sebastien Pitches said, "You are forgetting the poll for the Shinkenger as Power Rangers. .... [Also] maybe even think about YOUR idea for a Shinkenger and Goseiger adaptation. These are just some examples I'm not demanding you, just you may want to consider it one day." I have edited this comment and cropped it for the main idea pertaining to this topic but did not alter the original meaning of the commenter.

Best Name for Shinkenger as Power Rangers?
This was before we found out Saban would be back and he would be doing Shinkenger. I actually asked this question for my own fanfilm.
Samurai Strike - 187 of 215
Eternal Samurai - 42 votes
Team Samurai - 30 votes
Forever Samurai - 28 votes

I want to make a Power Ranger Fan Film, should it be based on...
Shinkenger 124 of 196
Goseiger 72 votes

So since I decided not to use the Shinkenger footage because of the new developments. I decided to do Dairanger and for a number of reasons. I could have done Jetman or an older Sentai, but since I already had team jackets for red, green, blue, pink and yellow and I didn't want to buy a light blue one, white one and black one, as I have such a low low lowest budget imaginable. Also, since we are using the Dairanger footage, I decided to first use one episode that wasn't used by MMPR and not refer to the beasts as Thunderzords. I don't want to discuss what I would have done with the Shinkenger footage until the new PR season started, or maybe even after it ended.

The D of the Dairanger suits should stand for what if it was for PR?
Destiny - 70 of 124
Devine - 42
Danger - 5
Daring - 7

If Dairanger was made into Power Rangers, what name would be appropriate?
Mythical Squad 57 of 127
Mythical Rage 26 (21%)
Daring Destiny 14 (10%)
Defining Destiny 17 (14%)
Daring Legends 11 (7%)
Danger Squad 2 (1%)

I don't like the title 'Mythical Squad' (which was the post voted in the above poll) so I will have it in a new poll compared with 'Mythical Destiny' because I really want the word 'Destiny' in the title to tie in with the 'D's on the uniforms. I am calling them Destiny Rangers. So this is a fanfilm/webisode, and won't be sold for money or any monetary gain, this fan webisode will be posted on this blog for free. I managed to get my friends to be the Rangers, they are not professional actors. So we will start shooting in June, hopefully will be done by August. It will just be one webisode, if it gets a good reception, and I can get everyone back together, then we might do a small web series. Depending on how fans receive it, I might even do some of the Dairanger story arcs.

So what is the plot?
Five descendants of warriors that fought for generation after generation to save the world from manifestation of anger, pain and depression. They were trained in an academy but it has now been destroyed and it is up to them to form a team.
