Second Wave Power Rangers

UPDATED 2/17/10 5PM EST
Last night pictures from the 2010 Toy Fair came out of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1st and 2nd wave). I am surprised to see the White Ranger and the Rangers with Dragon Shields (boys only of course, Blue didn't get it in the show) but sad to see no Deluxe Dragonzord or Rita.

The toyline includes:

Titanus Mix & Morph Base
It is a big base to change your Mix & Morph Figures, it is unknown if the Megazords will be able to combine with it. I doubt it. New Mix & Morph Figures are translucent Yellow & Black, Red with Dragon Shield and translucent Megazord. It actually looks well-crafted! I think it would be a waste if it didn't let the megazords combine but it doesn't look like it comes with its attachments necessary to make the Ultrazord.

Action Figures
Red, Blue and Black Rangers with shields and an extra-armored Green Ranger.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Morphin Rangers
These strange digital clock Rangers.

Zord Attack Vehicles
A new Red one, and White Ranger one--people complaining about his bikini look. I like the Blue Ranger vehicle but not the look of the Ranger.

Collectible Figures
So far only Megazord, Dragonzord in Battle mode, White Ranger and Red Ranger with Dragon Shield.

Mighty Morphin Air Attack Megazord
Radio-controlled. It has helicopter parts on top. Where the heck is my Dragonzord?

Power Morpher
Biggest thing is the Power Morpher, but from this look, it looks like it has a key and rip cord. The biggest thing is that it comes with the Power Coins and Ninja Coins--but what concerns me is that there is one wiht a Ranger face. I think maybe they will be two-faced like the McDonald's Ninja Coins back for MMPR:TM. The coins might shoot out.

Super Editorial
I would be a real shame if they didn't make a Dragonzord and Titanus compatible with the Dino Megazord, they are just 3 zords to combine!!! How hard could that be? And why not a regular Power Morpher.

THESE ARE FIVE THINGS FANS REALLY WANT:

  1. Deluxe Dragonzord to fit with Dino Megazord
  2. Titanus to fit with Megazord & Dragonzord
  3. Power Morpher (like the 1993 one)
  4. Dragon Morpher
  5. Rita Repulsa action figure
How hard could that be???!!!

ATTENTION! NEW!

Collection DX reports that they spoke to a rep and quote:
"For Power Rangers, the renewed Mighty Morphin' line will continue through 2010 and beyond. Their top-seller was the retooled Deluxe Megazord. When asked about the dragonzord, they said that the #1 request was for a Dragonzord. Bandai confirmed a Deluxe Dragonzord for sometime in 2011. they said this Dragonzord will feature electronic lights, sound and motorized action.
When talking to the Bandai reps about the future line, they said that the plan is to move back to the Japanese series, starting with Shinkenger, probably in 2012."

It is no surprise they are continuing the toyline to the next year, but it does surprise they are coming out with the White Ranger so quickly. They certainly are getting ahead of themselves. And as for Shinkenger for 2012, I doubt it.

Bandai America's Commercial: Day with Dad

I'd though I'd share this cute commercial.

This is my 500th post!

Face Ice Cream

You know those Ice Cream bars with the bubble gum eyes of popular characters you always see on Ice Cream trucks? Well, I was wondering how many have been Power Rangers. Companies owning their cartoon characters sell the license to Ice Cream companies (like Blue Bunny, Popsicle, and Good Humor-Beyers) to manufacture these ice creams. Many popular characters like Tweety Bird, Spider-Man, Ninja Turtles and Pink Panther switch companies through years.

"Saban Entertainment partnered with Pillsbury two years ago to create cut-and-cook cookies that featured the image of a Power Ranger in chocolate. The campaign ran for just a few weeks but helped draw attention to the Power Rangers' all-reaching promotion, said Rand Bremer, vp, licensing, food and beverage products at Saban. Since then, Saban has maintained a long-running Power Rangers frozen novelty license agreement with Good Humor-Breyers." " New products include Marvel Comics' Incredible Hulk Ice Bars and a set of Power Rangers Turbo Ice Bars."
- Robert Scally 1997 for Discount Store News

Pink Panther Ice Cream Bar has been around since the 70's but it's look hasn't really changed. Maybe slightly, but because its made by a different company.

Blue Bunny even manufactured a Sailor Moon Face Ice Cream Bar, but it was just the wand, it was a generic wand with a flower shape in the center. I was told it tasted bad. This wand was recycled for Sabrina the Teenage Witch Ice Cream I saw a couple of years later after Sailor Moon was canceled in 1996, a year after it started in the US by DiC.

Here is this weird Super Legends one. This is not American, it is Armenian. Click the link, they have three pics of different flavors. Weird thing is that it is the Operation Overdrive team on the logo and Pink is clearly Red re-colored.

I remember seeing In Space bars once, and they only made Red and Blue. And for Time Force, I read somewhere online they had Red and Blue. And for Wild Force, we know they made Blue and Black. And I know they made Turbo but I can't remember what colors. I know they only made two. For Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Rescue, they only had Red and Blue. I know they never made girl ones.

The pictures seen are the only Ice Cream Face Bar I could find, you have any pictures, please send them to me!

And this Mystic Force product was accidentally called Power Rangers Star Force on this UK Site.

Tensou Sentai Goseiger - Epic 1 - Review

I'm not going to review every Goseiger episode because 49 is too many even for me. Some episodes don't warrant a review.

The episode starts up with Dereputa of the Warstar attacking the headquarters of the Gosei people. Gosei Red fights him. Then we see him spotting a kid, who is either being teased or ignored by other kids. The other Goseiger fight some of the Beebe footsoliders. Gosei Red, Alata speaks to the boy and spirits away, loosing his transformation card. He regroups with the others and they discuss him loosing the card. Pink suspects the boy and calls him magically to them. I don't know what they tell the boy but Red stops Blue from 'memory wash'. It then gets to the point that the monster of the day fights the four and keeps them hostage. The boy gives the card back to Red and the five transform and show off their Gosei Blasters with the Headers, going against the Beebe. Then the monster of the day comes with his giant boulder and fights them. They bring their Gosei Weapons.

They then form the Gosei Dynamic Buster and destroy the monster. They then see the boy in the black coat apologize to a boy in red. They bid their goodbyes. The five hande their own drama. They turn around to find Dereputa. He wants Red. Red clutches his arm.

Review:
Gosei Red is an interesting character, but I am not sure of my assessment of him yet. I don't know if he childish or what yet. I like how they are already are a team. It is a bit like Boukenger how they were already a team. The theme song and the feel of the show reminds me of Sentai of the 90's, it definitely has a retro feel. It was a good episode but I was hoping for a big budget beginning ala Boukenger's first ep (the Indiana Jones feel) or Gaoranger's (fighting in water and air, fast pace). But I guess they are spending a lot of money on the Shinkenger vs. Go-Onger teamup and the upcoming Shinkenger special. Because the Shinkenger opening was tame.

104 of 148 were very much looking forward to the Goseiger premiere.
24 (16%) weren't looking forward to Goseiger as much as they did for Shinkenger.
20 (13%) were not really looking forward to it.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2010 - Foul Play in the Sky - Ep Review

"Foul Play in the Sky"
Kimberly goes on a plane ride with her Uncle Steve (Writer/Producer Doug Sloan) and Bulk & Skull tag along. Squatt poisons Steve to fall asleep and Kimberly must fly the plane with the help of Alpha 5. Meanwhile the Rangers fight the Snizzard (voice played by Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" and "Malcolm in the Middle").

I liked this episode because it showed that Kimberly was just not a bimbo. When Kimberly looks over the mountains, thinking of the time she first met Zordon. When I first saw this, I thought it was going to be a flashback episode, a clip show. But I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't. Because no new episodes aired after this episode for a while, I thought it was like a season finale or something. I mean, I was 11 for god's sake. Anyhoo, love above--Snizzard, that is the suit in new American footage. We never saw Dora Radun in the Bandora's palace, this was a splice-and-dice of old Rita footage with this shot to make the illusion of us seeing Snizzard being made.

This episode was also the first appearance of my favorite character Angela. Trini and Billy barely appear in this episode. In the end of the episode, some random guy is talking to Kimberly, applauding her for flying the plane by herself. Jason and Zack imitate a woman and a man. And yet more food is dropped on Bulk. In this revision, the graphics are different and more entertaining, except for the hearts--I guess it was also added since the episode airs before Valentine's Day. There is a data card before the commercial of the Pink Ranger and it is dumb because it says 'armor: pink', we know she is pink for god's sake! They could have at least maybe put her hobbies or something.

CUTS:

Squatt putting the toxic in the soda can. I guess they took it out so kids wouldn't get ideas. But that's dumb because he is an evil monster. Anyhoo, I liked this shot because it was another shot of the American Squatt suit. Its the first time we see his face, we last saw original footage of him in "Switching Places."
