Power Rangers Samurai - Tengen Gate - Review

The Rangers visit the guardians at the Tengen Gate to find the 'Black box' that will help them become more powerful. Master Xandred is absorbing power and out of commission so a Nighlok tries to seal him, by getting the Red Ranger. But Octoroo poisons Jayden. The four rangers fight the Nighlok. Antonio doesn't know who Deker is and he feeds him, but when Mia calls him, he mentions the Tengen gate and leaves, informing Deker and he goes to kidnap Jayden. Octoroo confronts Jayden, Daisuke and a helper. The Black Box was created by the first Red Samurai Ranger but not completed. Jayden refuses to give in and Antonio transforms in front of Deker and fights Octoroo.


Xandred wakes up and takes the Nighlok back to the River. The four Rangers are weaken and Octoroo bests Antonio in battle. Deker reveals himself in front of Antonio, he transforms into his monster form and leaves with Jayden. Octoroo leaves. Antonio goes to the four, who are knocked out. He drops to his knees and Xandred deals with the spider monster. Xandred calls what Octoroo did as initiative and not betraying him. He tortures the spider dude and more Moogers come out and other monsters. Deker continues to drag Jayden in a river. 'To Be continued'' scrolls across the screen.


Review:
Lots of 'Ranger' history is given but not clarified as to being 'Samurai Ranger' history. Bulk and Spike don't even appear in this episode, I'm informed this is the third episode that they don't appear in. Octoroo's plot was flawed, why poison the guy that needs to give you info and not give him the antidote? Sure, he told him eh would get the antidote but it is a risk. We also hear about Dayu's backstory, I am not sure if it was in Shinkenger. We again hear about Jayden's 'secret.' Interesting in that Genta made the Lobster but in this one, Jii gave the Claw Zord to Antonio. I don't know why they changed it. Maybe to not make Antonio look 'all powerful' or 'too powerful' that he made his own zord.


Here is my man-loving comment, that we see Jayden's butt when Deker takes him just like when Juuzo took Takeru but Takeru's butt was more plump, Jayden's butt is nice but not as plump.

Obviously Spike of Power Rangers Samurai is NOT the first 'Spike' in pop culture, I wanted to do a fun post about all the popular Spikes in popular culture (TV, Movies, Celebrities, etc.).

Spike a.k.a. William the Bloody
Premiering in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he was to have a southern accent and only last season two but he quickly became a fan favorite and all thanks to James Marsters, who is not really British but a Californian boy. When Buffy ended, his character was sent to Angel, where he has appeared in both Buffy and Angel comic books. He has had his own comics as well.

Spike TV
I forgot what it used to be called but it was decided in the early 2000's that they'd change the name to Spike and there was a huge copyright thingy about the name.

Spike of Rugrats
Tommy Pickles' pet dog was named Spike, a mutt with two or three grey spots, he was loyal and mischievous.

Spike of Tom & Jerry
In the old MGM shorts, Spike was the name of the dog was often was the thirdwheel of the exploits of a cat and mouse named Tom and Jerry. Sometimes he had a son too.

In Cowboy Bebop (1998 anime), Spike was the protagonist and bounty hunter, a classic badboy with a broken heart for the wrong chick at the wrong time.

GokaiSilver Gold Mode

Gai saves a girl's life from a car accident, but was hurt. He then meets AbareKiller (the real actor Koutaro Tanaka as Mikoto), DragonRanger, and TimeFire in his dream. The 3 previous 6th rangers approved his heroic action and sees Gai as a worthy candidate for the new 6th ranger, they then pass GokaiCelluar and Ranger Keys to him.

This is after the keys are taken back from Basco. This probably takes place in Episode 17. And by the way, Shurikenger is also another dead sixth ranger, they probably didn't include him because he is a repeat color. And yes, I know those three colors were Tommy's as well, interesting coincidence.

Timeranger's power = Gozyuujin's Drill Spaceship mode
Zyuuranger's power = Gozyuujin's T-rex mode
Abaranger's power = Gozyuujin's robot mode

Doesn't the bird drill by itself look like the Lifebird from GoGoV (Rescue Bird from Lightspeed Rescue)?

Ep 16 Clash! Sentai VS Sentai
Basco demands Marvelous to hand over the Ranger Keys, GokaiGalleon and Navi as a ransom for the release of Joe and the others

Ep 17
Navi tells the crew to "search for an awesome man in silver".
The group went out into the streets to search and sees a young man approaching.
Although Marvelous becomes suspicious of the man's weird behaviour, he ends up ignoring him.
Zangyack appears, and the Gokaigers fight against Action Commander Armageddon

There will be a one week break (June 19), after ep 17.

GokaiSilver is rumored for 18, Abaranger tribute and 20 is rumored to be the Hurricanger tribute.
