Super Sentai 'Versus' Teamup Specials

My pal Sean Akizuki covered this topic but I felt like elaborating. It was the 'Versus' part of the Teamup specials, for example, Kakuranger vs. Ohranger. I am going to detail if they fought or not. But the definition of the word 'versus' is just opposed to or in contrast with, which they do often.

JAKQ vs. Goranger
The first teamup ever, the Kamen Riders and Kikaider are mentioned in this special. Like the ones that followed it, it dealt mostly with the team that was mentioned first, in this case JAKQ. They worked together, didn't really fight each other.

Ohranger Vs. Kakuranger
A Youkai is wreaking havoc and raping girls. The father and son of Baranoia Empire are having a competition. Some of the Ohranger get possessed. The two teams knew of each other and worked together. Like every teamup form this point, there is a monster of the Baranoia and a monster of the Youkai.

Carranger VS. Ohranger
Because of a misunderstanding, Oh Red and Red Racer briefly fight and later on the Ohranger's commanding chief had the Carranger go through a rigorous government training. Here there is a monster and robot from Carranger villains Bowsock and a robot from the Baranoia.

Megaranger VS. Carranger
A cute little space creature grants wishes and everyone wants him. The Megaranger and Carranger meet and become friends, but Shobelina of Nejiregia turns the Carranger against the Megaranger through a spell kiss and they briefly fight. Dappu tells the Megaranger to shoot the Carranegr to break the spell. Later on, the Megaranger don the Mega Tector. There is a monster from a Megaranger and a space biker villain.

Gingaman vs. Megaranger
This one is rare as it takes place after both stories had ended, usually it is during the lead Sentai, but this one takes place after Gingaman ended.

GoGoV VS. Gingaman
I haven't seen it, but I think they worked together since the beginning of the teamup. They even give the Victory mars the Lights of Ginga. The special only had a lost brother of the demons, who had betrayed his mother.

Timeranger VS. GoGoV
Tatsuya did know who GoGoV was and the Timeranger didn't know who they were, which made more sense than the SPD or Time Force knowing who the heck one singular Power Ranger group was. A thousand years in the future, and you think they will know about just one Sentai team? Us Sentai fans even forget Denjiman or Changeman for example. Anyhoo, they are all split into different times and learn to work together. There is an alien from the prison and Pierre form GoGoV and they merge together.

Hurricanger Vs. Gaoranger
I already mentioned Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. The Hurricanger, Gouraijer, and Shurikenger fought Gaoranger, but the Jakanja did dress up as the Gaoranger, they stole the G-Phones and Tsuetsue and Jabiba had the Gaoranger kidnapped. Sae escaped and ask the Hurricanger for help. Eventually they escaped and got the G-Phones back. Their Shinobi Machines merge with the Power Animals. Chuzubo's brother was the villain.

Abaranger vs. Hurricanger
The special starts out with the Hurricanger mecha ripping through the Bakuryuu, it seems the bad guy stole them. The Abaranger and Hurricanger eventually work together and defeat the ninja villain. Abare Killer was against them at that point. Shurikenger briefly appeared and helped out, with no explanation to why he was alive, but it could be thought it was his temporary ghost.

Dekaranger vs. Abaranger
The special starts out with the main three Abaranger have stole the Dekranger's cars and the Dekranger and Abaranger fight. They put them in jail and they work it out. Abare Killer was brought to life from death to help out but when back to the after life. There was an Alienizer and a Torinoid.

Magiranger vs. Dekaranger
It was the interesting that the villain Babon absorbed bullets which the Dekaranger tried but only magic could stop him. There was also Beastman Apollos. They learned how to work together. Also, Ban showed off his new Battlizer from his Fire Squad. The Battlizer was introduced in SPD. DekaBreak and MagiShine do a joint attack. Deka Master and Wolzard fight against each other. This took place before they found out MagiMother was not dead, I wish she did appear. In a flashback, we see the mother entrusted SwanSwan and Doggy with an important item.

Gekiranger vs. Boukenger
Pink and Red had been away in space and seemingly join Rio and Mele to get an ancient monster out. They get help from a Hippo Rinshi as well. The Boukenger, lead by Masumi clash with the Gekiranger but they quickly team up. In the end, Gekiranger, Boukenger, Rio and Mele fight against the villain in space.

Go-Onger vs. Gekiranger
The Go-Onger must learn the GekiWaza to defeat a Rinshi, a Bankijyu and Ron (Long). Mele and Rio are brought to life by Hiroto, Miu and Master Shafu. Geki Violet and Geki Chopper did fight the Go-Onger over a misunderstanding.

Shinkenger vs. Go-Onger
The Go-Onger fight the Gaiark's Pollution President Batcheed in the Gunman World and are sent to other dimensions. The Shinkenger and Go-Onger join forces to fight a new Ayakashi and the Gairak after traveling through the Barenworlds. The Goseiger briefly appear as well to fight some Gedoshu villains.

Goseiger vs. Shinkenger
Premieres January 22, 2011 in theaters.

"Teamup Hair"
I forgot to mention this but I did want to mention this, the fan term that is 'Teamup Hair.' It probably used primarily by American Super Sentai fans. I am not sure if Japanese fans use this term. "Teamup Hair" refers to the different hairstyles that former Sentai cast members wear, that are drastically different than the hair they sported in their Sentai series. Many times they had to color their hair for a part and then changed it back to their regular hair or changed their hair for a specific part. The girls often cut their cut or rarely have it grow out. The men have them in different colors or states and have mostly grown it out or rarely cut it. So now this term "Teamup Hair" is often used by fans, especially now that former cast members are showing up for Goukaiger.

Ranger Key Set 01

Most likely we will be getting 7 sets for the 34 Red Rangers. Or maybe 6, with some sets carrying 6 instead of 5.

Go-kaiSabre
Releases: February
The Go-kaigers' sword sidearm. Able to utilize the Ranger Keys. The Goukai Mark on the guard emits 7-colored lights (Blue, Yellow, Green, Red, Pink, Purple and White). Official press material has called this the GoukaiKen. Comes with GoukaiYellow's RangerKey.

Go-kaiGun
Releases: February
The Go-kaigers' gun sidearm. When pushes the trigger, an upper part of the gun appears for key insertion. The Keys seem to be used to activate a finishing move. Comes with Go-kaiBlue's Ranger Key.

Go-kaiOh
Releases: 2/11/11 | Price: 6,500 yen
Go-kaiOh can enter a finishing mode, where cannons protrude from the different "caps". Galleon's bow opens up completely, with the 3-sails becoming armor. The barrels and treasure chests open up to reveal their cannons.

Go-kai Galleon- Red's 3-sailed galleon. Adhered to the bow are two sabers. Also, there are Boosters at the back. Go-kaiGalleon forms the head and body of Goukai Oh.

Go-kai Jet - Blue's jet. Where Go-kaiOh's hand is, there is a round barrel. GoukaiOh's hat is tucked behind the wings. Forms GoukaiOh's right arm and hat.

Go-kai Racer - Green's racecar. A square barrel is on the fist, versus Blue's round one. This is the car's bumper.

Go-kai Marine - Pink's submarine is white with pink accents). The tip of the submarine forms an ankle, but the upper part of the back is the knee. The location for its "cap" is a treasure chest.

Go-kai Trailer - Yellow's tractor trailer, which is mainly the cab part. It looks the most like a treasure chest.

Go-kaiMachine Series 01 MagiDragon
Releases: February
Price: 2,500 yen
Combines with Go-kaiOh to form MagiGo-kaiOh, in which the cannons are removed from the cap-ports, and MagiDragon is installed, adding a dragon head to Go-kaiOh's chest, wings to the shoulders and dragon-claws to the feet. It is a red version of MagiDragon as the original one was made of the other Magirangers other than Red.

Go-kaiMachine Series 02 PatStriker
Releases: March
Price: 3,000 yen
Combines with Go-kaiOh to form DekaGo-kaiOh, installing tires in the "Vulcan Ports". Go-kaiOh is armed with Dual-Guns made from the PatStriker parts.

Go-kaiMachine Series 03 GaoLion
Releases: April
Price: 4,500 yen
Eyes light up, and it speaks. Combines with Go-kaiOh to form GaoGo-kaiOh. Go-kaiOh's Legs are removed and Go-kaiOh uses GaoLion as its "legs" in a Centaur Mode [similar to GaoKentaurus/Pegasus Megazord.]

The silhouetted human-type robo combo seems to be a Shinkenger mode. GaoLion's head is on the chest, and the helmet has two-points, similar to ShinkenOh. The open Vulcan ports have the Shinkenger kanji on them, two "Ka" on the chest, "Sui" and "Ki" on both shoulders, and "Ten" and "Do" on the legs. The form itself resembles SamuraiHaOh, at least in silhouette.

Legend role playing set
Shinkenmaru, Mobirates, MagiPhone and D-Magnums

Vinyl figures of past Red Warriors
Deka Red, Magi Red, Gao Red, Shinken Red, Hurricane Red, Tyranno Ranger

Joint Gattai Series mecha (Similar to CandyToy)

EngineOh

Lavender Ranger's Opinion
So are we to understand we will get all 200 Ranger Keys? I don't believe so. Maybe we won't even see 200 Ranger Keys in the actual Sentai series. So far there is 12 Ranger Keys to be released. Most likely we will be getting all 34 Red Ranger Keys. So far there is 7 Red Ranger Keys, we just need 17 more. I just can't help buy mention Power Rangers, I know the series Goukaiger hasn't premiered yet, but it is kind of hard not to mention the Power Rangers since this series has a lot of past Sentai, that had been in Power Rangers. It is inevitable. It is obvious that Bandai kept in mind that the series will become Power Rangers, because many of the past Sentai first released with this line have become PR, only 1 has not--Sun Vulcan. Bandai America can easily skip that, since recently they have been making their own version of the Morphers, Zords and other role-play toys. And if Bandai does use older Sentai, these will be omitted.

Speculations: Goukaiger traveling through all 34 Sentai

Here are some speculations and my own interpretations and guesses to what the Go-kaiger series will entail based on past habits of Toei and Bandai.
MagiDragon, PatStriker, and Gao Lion are set to be auxiliary mecha to go with the main mecha GoukaiOh in February, March and April, so maybe they will meet the Magiranger, Dekaranger and Gaoranger. The Ranger Keys rumored to be released first are GaoRed, VulEagle, and MagiRed, GekiRed so maybe they meet the Sun Vulcan and Gekiranger as well.

It is confirmed that the Go-kaiger will indeed transform into past Sentai, so many are wondering what will Toei do with the 5-person team of Go-kaiger and 3-person team such as Sun Vulcan, where other Sentai that started with 3 ended with 5 or more (like Liveman, Hurricanger, Abaranger, Gekiranger and Go-Onger). My guess to Sun Vulcan (which only has Red, Blue, and Yellow), is that either they will create Pink and Green members (like many fans hope for), or they will make a story in which Pink and Green are kidnapped or incapacitated in some way (which is a most likely scenario for me).

Fans also would want to know about the Sixth Rangers, like those 18 odd teams without a sixth ranger, what will the sixth Go-kaiger do. My guess is that Toei might do most of the early teams first before the sixth Go-kaiger comes along. But from the toy lists that have been released, it looks like they will be covering Gaoranger, Dekaranger, and Magiranger that have sixth rangers. So maybe they will display the main 5 of Gao, Deka and Magi and skip the sixth Rangers and then when the sixth Go-kaiger comes along, and the team becomes a non 6-ranger team, the sixth Go-kaiger will become a sixth like DekaBreak, DekaMaster, MagiShine, and GaoSilver.

As for American-exclusive Rangers such as the Titanium Ranger and the Spirit Rangers, many fans are hoping they will fill in the gaps of no sixth with these Rangers. Stranger things have happened, but I personally believe that with 34 teams and what Toei claims is 200 heroes, I doubt Toei will add more Rangers, but Kamen Rider Decade did add like 3 more Kamen Riders into the mythology of past series (Kivara to Kiva, Amaki to Hibiki and Abyss to Ryuki). So in conclusion, seeing by habits of Toei, most past Sentai will be in random order, we might get the Go-kaiger turning into random Rangers at random times.

And I am hoping that the one rumor I heard about (there being seven Rangers in order to go along with 7 Seas of the Earth) comes true. Because there are female minor Rangers out there (DekaSwan, DekaBright, DekaGold, MagiMother, Go-On Silver, Shinken Red) and most likely the sixth Go-kaiger will be male, and least likely he will become one of them as there is male sixth rangers in the teams that there are those female ones. So, it would be cool for there to be a seventh Go-kaiger that transforms into those women, and maybe White Racer and Shiro Bara Kamen (White Rose Mask of Sun Vulcan). Maybe they aren't enough Rangers, as there is only like 5 or 6 and I thought with Kamen Rider Decade, there would be a new female Rider representing the female Kamen Riders, but we got Amaki and Kivara, but they didn't represent past females, and the only acknowledgment to it was a short web video (which didn't mention them all).

Random Shinkenger Images

My site partner bought the final Shinkenger picture book (the one with side views and monster pictures we use for the websites), and it took forever for it to come out. Here are pictures I will not be including on the site because they don't quite fit in. They might be used in the future as part of the header or opening index.
